Wildlife Wonders

Let’s grab our explorer hats and embark on some more ideas that will make your zoo trips even more roar-some than a lion’s mane!

Ensure a ‘Paw’sitive Experience

  • Zoo Research: Learn about the animals you’ll see. Which ones is the family most excited about? Are any from unique habitats? If the zoo is a large one, be sure to plan a family-friendly route.
  • Packing List: Make a checklist of necessities – sunscreen, hats, binoculars, refillable water bottles.
  • Zookeeper Talks: Check the schedule for talks or demonstrations by zoo staff, and plan your day around them.

Roaring Good Times

  • Habitat Comparisons: Compare habitats at the zoo to the animal’s natural home. How are they similar and different?
  • Animal Adoption: See if the zoo has an adoption program. Choose an animal together and ‘adopt’ it as a family.
  • Conservation Chat: Talk about how zoos help with conservation, and what actions you can take to protect wildlife.

Bonus tip: Instead of corralling your family into the same family photos as everywhere else, make it a photo contest with different categories (funniest animal pose, best family member imitating an animal, etc).
