We’ve got some trail-blazing ideas to take your outdoor adventure hike to new heights.
Discover What’s Around
- “I Spy”: Play “I Spy,” but focus on nature elements (“I spy something with a smooth texture,” “I spy something that makes a rustling sound.)
- Miniature World Photography: Get down low with phone cameras or macro lenses. The .5 lens on an iPhone is perfect for this! Capture close-ups of tiny insects, intricate wildflowers, and interesting textures.
- Land Art: Using only natural materials (sticks, leaves, pebbles), create temporary sculptures or designs along the trail.
Guided Learning
- Wildlife Guides: Pack a regional bird or plant identification guide. Learn to recognize the wildlife around you.
- Track Identification: Look for animal tracks and try to figure out who left them! There are guides for this too.
Bonus Tip: Leave the tech in the bag for a portion of the hike. Challenge everyone to engage with nature fully by focusing on sights, sounds, and smells without the distraction of phones or other tech.
