Budding artists and romantic naturalists, prepare to let your creativity blossom. We’re taking this romantic rendezvous to new elevations on the iconic High Line, where breathtaking city vistas and blooming love will serve as your muses. Prepare to be sketchy in the most charming way possible.
High-lighting the Spark
- Packing List: Pencils are perfect, but why not add some travel-sized watercolors or colored markers? They’ll open up more possibilities for capturing the vibrant scenes.
- On The Hunt: Visit the High Line’s website and check out their “Current Art” page. Pick one specific piece you want to sketch or seek out as inspiration for your own views.
- Inspiration Everywhere: While grabbing coffee or a snack beforehand, sketch each other, the person at the next table, anything! It’ll loosen you up for the main event.
Drawn In
- I Spy: Instead of the usual game, challenge each other to find interesting details – a pattern in a building facade, a quirky piece of public art, the most colorful flower.
- Caption Contest: After sketching, take turns coming up with funny or poetic titles for each other’s drawings. (“Pigeon in a Pretzel Pose,” anyone?)
- Theme or it Didn’t Happen: Decide on a theme beforehand for your sketches. Will it be about shapes? Colors? People-watching? This adds an extra layer of challenge and fun comparison later.
Rendering Romance
- Nearby Gallery Exploration: Chelsea is just below the High Line and is full of art galleries. Pop into one or two for further inspiration or a post-sketch palate cleanser.
- Art Supply Reward: Swing by a cute art supply store (there are a few in the area) and pick up a small souvenir – a special pen, a tiny sketchbook – to remember the experience.
- Transform it: Back home, scan or photograph your sketches and turn them into fun postcards you can send to each other, or even a phone wallpaper with both of your art side-by-side.
