We’ve got some ideas that will make your hearts grow three sizes and your impact even greater.
What is important?
- Learn as a Family: Research the cause you’ll support. Watch a short documentary, read articles, or visit the organization’s website to understand their mission.
- Share Stories: Talk about why volunteering matters. Does your family have personal experiences related to the cause? Share those!
- Set Goals: With your kids, discuss what you hope to get out of the experience as a family. How do you want to grow through service together?
Volunteering Is A Superpower
- Reflect in Action: Encourage brief “check-ins” while volunteering. “How does doing this make you feel?”, “What are you learning right now?”
- Make Gratitude a Habit: Start a family gratitude jar. Write down things you’re thankful for, including the chance to give back.
- Plan for the Future: Can you volunteer regularly as a family? Are there related causes you want to learn about or other ways to help?
Bonus Tip: Have kids make a short video about their volunteer experience. Sharing it on social media inspires others AND helps the kids process what they learned. If you don’t use social media, no issue sending it to Grandparents or other family can brighten everyone’s day with the same result!
